KATHERINE PEREZ, 1st VICE PRESIDENT

Ms. Katherine Perez, a resident of Bowie, moved to Prince George's County in 2004 following a distinguished 21-year career in the Hartford, Connecticut Police Department. In 1983, she began her professional career in Hartford as a patrol officer. She advanced through the department, holding a variety of positions. As Captain, she was Commander for the Investigative Services Bureau and the Support Services Bureau where she directed over 150 sworn and civilian personnel. She also served as department liaison to federal and state law enforcement agencies, directed the department's youth services bureau, improved departmental automation, and over saw all major crime investigations. She was awarded Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Trinity College (Hartford, Connecticut).

Prior to her present position, she was Chief of the District Heights Police Department. Ms. Perez held the position of Director of the Juvenile Justice Monitoring Unit of the Maryland Attorney General's Office prior to her appointment as Chief of Police. Ms. Katherine Perez was chosen from more than 200 applicants to head the City's new Police Department.

Chief Perez is married and has five children. She became the first Chief of Bowie Police Department on September 11, 2006.

City Manager David Deutsch said of Ms. Perez' appointment: "The City is fortunate to have someone with the experience that Katherine Perez brings to this challenge. Ms. Perez will bring a deep commitment and enthusiasm to the creation of our new Police Department."

Ms. Perez said, "I am honored to be chosen for this important position. As a Bowie resident, I am excited about the opportunity to give back to my community. I look forward to establishing the new department and working with the residents of Bowie."
