JANE CASTOR, 2nd VICE PRESIDENT

Assistant Chief Jane Castor began her career with the Tampa (FL) Police Department in February 1984. During her 22-year career she has served in a variety of assignments in the Patrol Division, the Narcotics Bureau, Criminal Investigative Division, Criminal Intelligence Bureau and Administrative Division. Jane has worked street crimes to strip clubs, guarded presidential candidates, investigated child abuse allegations and provided security for many special events. She was promoted to Assistant Chief in August of 2005 by Chief Steve Hogue.  Assistant Chief Castor currently directs the Public Information Office, all District Operations and the Special Operations Division.

Assistant Chief Castor was the first female president of an academy class in Tampa and won best all-around candidate honors before joining the Tampa Police Department. In May 1988, she signed up for the Quad Squad, a street-clothes and investigative detail created in response to the spread of crack cocaine on the city's streets. The Quad Squads helped move crack cocaine off the streets and became a model for other police departments across the country. After leaving the squad in 1989, Castor rose quickly up the ranks, serving in high profile positions such as sergeant on the narcotics bureau and the sex crimes and child abuse squad in the mid 1990s.

Jane holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from the University of Tampa (FL) where she attended on a basketball and volley ball scholarship. Jane continued her education by achieving a Master of Public Administration degree from Troy State University. Chief Castor is also a graduate of the FBI's National Academy in Quantico, VA.

Jane has been a member of NAWLEE since 1999, and was Chairperson of the Membership Committee from 2001-2003.
